TALIBANES EN AFGANISTAN SUSPENDEN EDUCACION UNIVERSITARIA A LAS MUJERES

El Ministerio de Educación Superior afgano, dirigido por los talibanes, suspendió el martes el acceso de las estudiantes a las universidades hasta nuevo aviso, provocando la enérgica condena de Estados Unidos, Gran Bretaña y Naciones Unidas.

En una carta, confirmada por un portavoz del Ministerio de Educación Superior, se ordenaba a las universidades públicas y privadas afganas que suspendieran inmediatamente el acceso a las estudiantes, de acuerdo con una decisión del Consejo de Ministros.

El anuncio de la administración talibán, que no ha sido reconocida internacionalmente, se produjo mientras el Consejo de Seguridad de Naciones Unidas se reunía en Nueva York para tratar el tema de Afganistán.

Los gobiernos extranjeros, incluido el de Estados Unidos, han afirmado que es necesario un cambio en las políticas sobre la educación de las mujeres antes de considerar el reconocimiento formal de la administración talibán, que también está sujeta a fuertes sanciones.

"Los talibanes no pueden esperar ser miembros legítimos de la comunidad internacional hasta que respeten los derechos de todos los afganos, especialmente los derechos humanos y la libertad fundamental de las mujeres y las niñas", declaró ante el Consejo el embajador adjunto de Estados Unidos ante la ONU, Robert Wood, quien calificó la medida de "absolutamente indefendible".

La embajadora británica ante la ONU, Barbara Woodward, dijo que la suspensión era "otro atroz recorte de los derechos de las mujeres y una profunda decepción para todas y cada una de las estudiantes".

"También es un paso más de los talibanes para alejarnos de un Afganistán autosuficiente y próspero", declaró ante el Consejo.

En marzo, los talibanes suscitaron las críticas de muchos gobiernos extranjeros y de algunos afganos por dar marcha atrás en las señales de que se abrirían todos los institutos femeninos.

El portavoz de la ONU, Stéphane Dujarric, dijo que la medida del martes era "claramente otra promesa incumplida de los talibanes".

"Es otra medida muy preocupante y es difícil imaginar cómo puede desarrollarse el país, hacer frente a todos los desafíos que tiene, sin la participación activa de las mujeres y la educación de las mujeres", declaró a la prensa en Nueva York.

"El dolor que no solo yo… y (otras) madres tenemos en el corazón, no se puede describir. Todas sentimos este dolor, están preocupadas por el futuro de sus hijos", dijo.
