GUSTAVO DUDAMEL SERA EL DIRECTOR MUSICAL DE LA FILARMONICA DE NUEVA YORK

Gustavo Dudamel se convertirá en director musical de la Filarmónica de Nueva York para la temporada 2026-27, poniendo fin a un anunciado mandato con la Filarmónica de Los Ángeles que comenzó en 2009.
El director venezolano de 42 años acordó un contrato de cinco años como director artístico y musical de Nueva York, anunció la orquesta el martes. Dudamel se convertirá en el primer latino al frente de la orquesta desde su fundación en 1842.
"Lo que la orquesta nos dijo muy, muy claramente fue que la persona que querían, su candidato soñado, era Gustavo", dijo la directora general de la Filarmónica de Nueva York, Deborah Borda. "Cuando intentas contratar al director de orquesta más solicitado del mundo, no haces una especie de búsqueda clásica".
Dudamel -que ostentará el título de director musical designado en 2025-26- seguirá siendo también director musical de la Ópera de París, cargo que ocupa desde 2021, y de la Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar de Venezuela, puesto que asumió en 1999 y que le valió el reconocimiento internacional.
Dudamel, en un comunicado, citó la frase del poeta español Federico García Lorca: "Cada paso que damos en la tierra nos lleva a un mundo nuevo".
"Contemplo con alegría y emoción el mundo que tengo ante mí en la ciudad de Nueva York, y con orgullo y amor el mundo que he compartido -y seguiré compartiendo- con mis queridos angelinos durante las próximas tres temporadas y más allá", dijo Dudamel. "Todos nosotros estamos unidos en nuestra creencia de que la cultura crea un mundo mejor, y en nuestro sueño de que la música es un derecho fundamental".
Jaap van Zweden dijo en septiembre de 2021 que dejaría la Filarmónica de Nueva York después de la temporada 2023-24, un mandato de seis temporadas como director musical que será el más corto desde que Pierre Boulez sucedió a Leonard Bernstein y dirigió la orquesta de 1971 a 1977.
